TSA Ecology case studies
TSA Ecology undertakes a variety of projects and surveys for a broad range of clients. Here is some of the project work we have undertaken.
Broxbourne School Phase 1 Habitat Survey, Badger and Bat Surveys
Location: Broxbourne, Hertfordshire
TSA Ecology was commissioned by a building services and engineering client to undertake a Phase 1 habitat survey to support a planning application for a school demolition and rebuild. This involved project team meetings, liaising with the local council and undertaking specialist protected species surveys (bats and badgers). Part of the site lay within Green Belt, and an EPSL (European Protected Species Licence) was required for a pipistrelle bat roost.
Foyle’s Site, Charing Cross Road, Bat Internal / External Assessment and Survey
Location: London Borough of Westminster
TSA Ecology was commissioned by a Sustainability consultant to assess a number of buildings both externally and internally for bat potential, and combined with a desk study advise on the potential for bats to be present on site. The site was subject to survey which demonstrated limited bat presence locally.
Phase 1 Habitat Survey
Location: Moston and Levenshulme, Greater Manchester
TSA Ecology was commissioned to provide a Phase 1 habitat survey and ecology support for a planning application. The site was proposed to be used for residential development aimed at the travelling community and was linked to the local council’s housing policy.
Maidstone, Reptile Presence / Absence Survey
Location: Maidstone, Kent
TSA Ecology was commissioned by an Ecology consultant to undertake a reptile survey for a housing developer in Kent. A population of slow-worms was recorded and ecological advice provided which has resulted in the developer revising mitigation plans for the proposed scheme.
Phase 1 Habitat and Reptile Surveys for Planning Application for Poultry Business
Location: Cookham, Berkshire
A developer was seeking to establish a poultry farming business on Green Belt land in Berkshire. TSA Ecology advised the developer and undertook PEA to provide documentation for planning, while also liaising with the council ecologist and undertaking reptile surveys at the site further to discussions with the LPA.
Bat Surveys for Planning Application for Barn Conversion
Location: Lambourne, Berkshire
TSA Ecology was commissioned by an architect to advise on a planning application for a barn conversion, in particular with respect to bat surveys. The site was subject to an EPSL application, in respect of roosting brown long-eared and pipistrelle bats.
Bat Assessment for Demolition of Schools and Site Redevelopment
Location: Multiple Sites, Suffolk
TSA Ecology conducted external and internal bat inspections as part of a planning application and the subsequent proposed demolition works. Three sites were assessed for their potential to support bats – a former primary school, a middle school and a secondary school. Evidence of bat use was recorded from two of the three sites. An EPSL is being sought for one of the sites.
Breeding and Wintering Bird Surveys in Support of Planning Application for Residential Sites
Location: Cumbria, Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and West Yorkshire.
Wintering and breeding bird surveys were undertaken at a range of sites, including two large proposed residential sites in Norfolk and Suffolk. A winter bird report was prepared for the Norfolk site, to include reference to internationally protected species. TSA Ecology also provided ongoing bird advice to the client.
Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, Protected Species Surveys and Planning Advice for School Sites
Location: Ramsgate, Kent
TSA Ecology conducted surveys and research to support a planning application for a proposed school demolition and rebuild, for a building services and engineering client. Planning applications were submitted for three sites, with specialist bat and reptile surveys. Ongoing planning and ecology advice was also provided to the client.
Sustainability Assessment, Regional Retail Portfolio
Location: Various Counties (14), UK
TSA Ecology undertook phase 1 habitat surveys of 19 UK sites to support decision-making and planning future biodiversity initiatives at these sites.
